KYLIE SPENCE – DEBUT EP OUT NOW- IN EXCLUSIVE INDIEBERLIN INTERVIEW

November 25, 2018

Kylie Spence’s songs shouldn’t really come from a 17 year old…but they do. Fresh from supporting Spotify sensation Dennis Lloyd to packed out audiences in Israel, we asked her some questions, and hey! Her debut EP came out Friday…Coincidence? I think not

indieberlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background

Kylie Spence: Music has been with me for my whole life. I have always loved writing little pieces of poetry and then sing along to it and picture myself singing in music videos, but I really started seriously almost two years ago and that’s when I started recording. A lot of people also ask me where I got my musical talent and the answer is NOT my parents haha. My great aunt was an opera singer in Europe and I like to think that’s where I got my vocals.

indieberlin: Tell us something about yourself that you always wanted to say but no one has ever asked you yet.

Kylie Spence: I think, or at least I like to think that I could be a very good actress. I mean besides the daily drama I fill my life with, I have always loved playing different parts and putting myself in others shoes if that makes sense.

indieberlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

Kylie Spence: I love this question so much. I would have to say that my music right now is colorful, made up of lots of neons, very mature and cinematic, and relatable for a person of any age.

indieberlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Kylie Spence: Everything. People, experiences, emotions. My empathy allows me to feel everything, even if it’s not for me to feel, and I think thats what allows me to write about so many different things and topics.

indieberlin: What music do you listen to when you’re touring?

Kylie Spence: Well when I was touring in Europe the new Post Malone album had just been released, and that was the ONLY thing I listened to. I would get ready to it, sing to it, eat to it, you name it. I love that record and it gets me so pumped up.

indieberlin: What was your biggest stage fuck-up?

Kylie Spene: LOL… I have had many. But, the worst in my opinion is when my in ears weren’t plugged in and I couldn’t hear anything and I was trying not to freak out in front of 3000 people.

indieberlin: What was the nicest compliment you once got?

Kylie Spence: People crying to my music is the biggest compliment in itself. I know that sounds weird and I cant explain it, but the thought that your art could impact someone so much is beautiful.

indieberlin: How do you feel about covering a song?

Kylie Spence: Personally, I love covering songs because I love taking my own unique approach to the song and seeing how people react to it. There is something so creative to me about getting to change up the song, especially if you’re covering a song that you love.

indieberlin: In ten years you look back to today and think:_____________

Kylie Spence: “Damn Kylie, you think way too much…”

indieberlin: Do you see your songs in colour or in black and white?

Kylie Spence: In colour for sure… but I also guess it depends on the song and the feeling that comes with it.
